The Ministry of Education and Science intends to significantly reduce the number of compulsory subjects of the invariant component in high school. The corresponding innovation is contained in the project of the Standard curriculum for grades 10-11. If approved, the proposed changes will become effective in 2018.
In particular, it is planned to reduce the list of compulsory subjects in high school from 22 to 9.
The department emphasizes that this will enable schools to define their profile and teach selected subjects in depth.
According to Deputy Minister of Education Pavlo Khobzei, high school students should prepare for admission to higher education.
"Time is the most important resource. In the 10th-11th grade, children should already understand what future path they will choose, and start preparing for admission to a higher educational institution," the deputy minister notes.
Also, one of the innovations that is planned to be implemented from 2018 is the creation of integrated profile subjects. In particular, if the document is approved, integrated subjects "Literature", "History", "Man and Society" and "Mathematics" will appear in Ukrainian high schools.
