The Ministry of Education and Culture is ready to support projects dealing with the creation of truly high-quality electronic textbooks with interactive tasks and multimedia applications. This was stated by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych during the presentation of the work of electronic textbooks in Odesa Gymnasium No. 2.
"We are already moving in the direction of transition to electronic textbooks. From now on, publishing houses will definitely provide the Ministry of Education and Science with an electronic version of the textbook, but this is not enough - we have to work on multimedia applications, which are included in such textbooks in most civilized countries of the world. There are even states that do not purchase paper textbooks - only electronic ones," Liliya Hrynevych said.
The director and teachers of Gymnasium No. 2 explained the advantages of electronic textbooks. In particular, they provide an opportunity to control the student's work, are multimedia and interactive, which is interesting for students, and can be available on many gadgets at the same time.
"Let's consider how we study crustaceans," suggests the biology teacher of Gymnasium No. 2 during the presentation. - I have an interactive task, on the multimedia board there is a picture on which students can mark individual elements of the structure of a crustacean, work on this task by options and groups. The textbook also allows for automatic checking and automatically saves notes from the text of the book that the student selects."
The history teacher demonstrated the multimedia possibilities – built-in educational clips and films, as well as interactive tours that are in the textbook. She emphasized that this form makes it easier to conduct a lesson and makes it interesting.
The developers, who are currently focused on creating a platform for interactive textbooks, emphasize that this form of educational materials is much cheaper than paper ones. They also draw attention to the fact that the state is forced to spend more and more money on textbooks every year.
"Money is an important thing, but secondary. More importantly, such a format can be interesting for modern children, encourage them to study, and also become a factor in connection with which the school portfolio will become lighter. It seems to me that your platform is a good regional practice that deserves to be spread throughout Ukraine," added the Minister.
