The Ministry of Education and Science offers elementary school teachers to evaluate the results of personal assets of students in grades 1-4 by verbal assessment.
This is stated in the new methodical recommendations for student evaluation, approved by the department.
Methodological recommendations outline the approaches to evaluating the learning outcomes of students in grades 1-4.
One of the key changes in assessment is the approach to expressing assessment. In particular, the Ministry of Education proposed to use a verbal assessment of individual learning outcomes of the student, which, in addition to the evaluative judgment about achievements, can also name the level of the learning outcome, instead of the generalized point assessment of the educational achievements of the students in the subject/course.
The recommendations introduce the concepts of verbal evaluation (evaluative judgment) and level evaluation (evaluative judgment indicating the level of the result).
"Verbal and level assessment can be expressed both orally and in writing. The level of the learning result is recommended to be determined taking into account the dynamics of its achievement and denoted by letters - "initial" (P), "average" (C), "adequate" (D), "high" (B)," the Ministry of Education notes.
It is recommended to express the results of assessment of students' personal assets in grades 1-4 with a verbal assessment, objective learning results in grades 1-2 with a verbal assessment, in grades 3-4 with either a verbal or graded assessment at the choice of the institution.
The recommendations also contain the Indicative framework for evaluating the learning outcomes of students in grades 1-4. It allows to ensure the objectivity and accuracy of the evaluation result and is designed to help form evaluation judgments and determine the level of the learning result.
At the same time, the institution can develop and fix general regulations regarding the evaluation of student learning results in the educational program and specify them in part of the regulation on the internal system of ensuring the quality of education. Peculiarities of the organization of assessment in a certain class can be initiated by the teacher and approved at a meeting of the pedagogical council of the institution.
A student's grade is confidential information that should only be available to the student and their parents.
