According to the intention of the Ministry of Education and Culture of Ukraine, secondary education will consist of 12 years, including elementary school - grades 1-5, basic school - grades 6-9, and specialized high school - grades 10-12.

This training program will be implemented for children who will go to school in 2017. The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine noted that 12-year education is practiced in most European countries. "Today we see that when children finish school at the age of 16-17, they are often not ready to make a final decision. To make the right decision, with which it will be comfortable to live and work, regarding one's further fate."

"In the 21st century, the amount of knowledge, skills and abilities needed to participate in society has grown significantly," she said.

Children will acquire working professions in high school, and higher education in academic lyceums. In colleges, students will study for four years instead of three and will receive the qualification of junior specialist. So, after finishing school at the age of 18-19, most students will be able to start working immediately, that is, higher education will not be necessary for everyone.

According to the deputy minister of education, chief of staff Oleg Derevyanko, the new system will make it possible to take into account both the abilities of each child and the needs of the labor market. Changing the approach to education, when traditional for our school memorization, which really exhausts children, does not give them the necessary knowledge and the ability to use this knowledge, will be replaced by the ability to learn. "We will not train everyone according to the same programs, regardless of what the child is more inclined to in terms of abilities, and from the point of view of his own desires, and from the point of view of the needs of the labor market, which are constantly changing. For five years, the primary school actually teaches the child to learn, engages in his upbringing. Basic school, four years, provides basic functional knowledge. And after nine years, a person can go further - either to professional education, or to a senior specialized school. In the senior specialized school, the student will be able to choose subjects according to the specialty in order to enter the university," Oleg Valeriyovych emphasized.
