More than 13 million hryvnias were allocated from the city budget of Kyiv for the printing of textbooks for the capital's 4th and 7th grade students. 67 deputies of the Kyiv City Council voted for the corresponding decision to increase the expenditures of the special fund for financing the purchase of school textbooks for city students, taking into account the payment of 50 % of their cost.
According to the Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration, Hanna Starostenko, all these new textbooks were supposed to be printed at the expense of the Ministry of Education, but due to the difficult situation in the country, it was decided to transfer part of the amount to local self-government bodies.
"More than 27 million hryvnias are needed to provide 4th and 7th grade students with textbooks in the capital. Kyiv provided half of the required amount so that our schoolchildren could study using new textbooks," she emphasized.
Currently, the payment mechanism for printing the textbooks itself remains unclear. "We hope that this problem will be solved in a few weeks. Until then, we ask parents, teachers and students to understand the problem. In addition, teachers will still give children all the material that is missing in old textbooks."
