The day before, at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Minister Serhii Kvit met with representatives of the All-Ukrainian Society "Prosvita" named after Taras Shevchenko.
The participants of the meeting were: the chairman of the association, poet Pavlo Movchan; Deputy Chairman, Professor Oleksandr Ponomariv; responsible secretary, honored worker of education of Ukraine Mykola Nesterchuk.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation between "Prosvita" and the Ministry of Education and Science in the direction of establishing the Ukrainian language as the state language and supporting socially important educational projects were discussed.
Serhiy Kvit is grateful for the cooperation, for the concern for education issues, for the information he receives from the society. "We always respond to all appeals from the public. We have established communication with activists, students, teachers, experts. For example, in accordance with the appeals of the students, the rector of the Odesa Law Academy was suspended, who, instead of the educational process, pressured the students to campaign for a candidate for the Verkhovna Rada," the Minister noted.
Also, the Minister drew the attention of the meeting participants to the Ministry's work on the implementation of the new Law "On Higher Education", talked about the most important tasks and benefits for the academic community and the Ministry of Education and Culture. As an example, Serhii Kvit cited the possibility of withdrawing special funds of universities from the Treasury and switching to services in banks in order to dispose of funds at their own discretion.
Pavlo Movchan, the head of the Prosvita association, emphasized that during the annexation of Crimea and the terrorist occupation of the East of the country, Prosvita became the first organization to suffer oppression. However, for the further functioning of regional branches, the society needs support from the Ministry. "Two organizations were repressed. We translated "Crimean Lighthouse" and "Call of Sevastopol" into online editions," Pavlo Movchan emphasized.
In order to discuss issues related to the establishment of the authority of the Ukrainian language in the education system, modern curricula, and the Ukrainian studies component of the content of national education, the two parties agreed on another meeting in a broader format.
