For the first time, Turkish students had the opportunity within the framework of higher education not only to study the Ukrainian language, but also to immerse themselves more deeply in the Ukrainian culture, to better understand the peculiarities of the Ukrainian people. This was emphasized by the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Liliya Hrynevych during the ceremonial opening of the "Ukrainian Language and Literature" specialty at Istanbul University today, March 27, 2018.

The specialty was opened at the Faculty of Literature, Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. Currently, 18 students are already studying at the budget.

"No economic, social, cultural and other projects between our states are possible without people accompanying them, creating mutual understanding and establishing communication. In this context, the slogan of Istanbul University sounds particularly symbolic - "To unite East and West; past and future". Our countries have a common history, both are at the crossroads between the West and the East. I am convinced that strong ties between us are the key to success," said Liliya Hrynevych.

In the specialty, they study applied Ukrainian linguistics, phonetics, morphology, syntax of the Ukrainian language, oral and written-literary communication, reading and interpreting texts, business correspondence, translation of works of art, and even simultaneous translation. It is also provided that students will study Ukrainian history, culture, literature, and linguistic and cultural studies.

"Thanks to joint efforts, we are deepening educational and scientific ties between the countries - 1,823 citizens of Turkey study in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. 464 Ukrainians are receiving full-cycle education at Turkish universities. From now on, opportunities for the training of linguists have been created in both countries," the minister added.
