In the Kyiv metro, the acceptance of contactless payments by bank card has been implemented. The project was implemented in partnership with MasterCard and Oschadbank JSC, as well as with the technical support of Bankomvyazok JSC and the ASTEK consortium.
The Ukrainian capital was added to the list of cities such as London, St. Petersburg, Chicago and Bucharest.
"One of the criteria for the convenience and comfort of life in any metropolis is fast and affordable transport. We decided to make it easier for Kyivites and guests of the city to use transport with the help of the latest IT technologies. This project was implemented within the framework of "Smart City". From now on, people will be able to pay for travel with a card. Contactless payment saves time and those who go down to the subway. No queues at the cash desk or machine for tokens, no top-up of the travel card, no "chosen" bank. It is also important to note that the city did not spend budget funds on the implementation of this project at all," said Ihor Nikonov, First Deputy Chairman of the KMDA.
Starting today, all users of the Kyiv metro can use a contactless MasterCard bank card to pay for their fare by bringing it to the turnstile. After that, funds corresponding to the fare will be automatically withdrawn from the card.
List of stations where the following systems have already been installed: "Khreshchatyk", "Teatralna", "Golden Gate", "Lev Tolstoy Square", "Independence Square", "Postal Square", "Contraktova Square", "Palace of Sports", "Arsenalna" ", "University", "Polytechnic Institute", "Shulyavska", "Olimpiyska", "Palace Ukraine", "Lukyanivska", "Klovska" and "Pecherska".
"Modern realities dictate the latest solutions, and we really want the Kyiv Metro to become a leader in their implementation. Today's novelty is a significant step towards significant changes in the fare payment system. Future plans include topping up travel tickets in terminals at stations using a bank card, as well as remote top-up via the Internet," Viktor Braginskyi, head of the capital subway, emphasized.
"MasterCard contactless payment technologies are optimally suited where service speed is especially important. Millions of people in Kyiv use the subway every day, and the ability to contactless pay for travel with their own bank cards will make their trips faster and more comfortable. The introduction of contactless payments will also help the Kyiv Metro and KMDA to optimize operating costs and, in the future, create fare payment systems that integrate different types of transport. We are very glad that in Ukraine we have such open-minded partners who are not afraid to be among the first in Europe to implement such innovative projects," said Vira Platonova, general director of the MasterCard Europe representative office in Ukraine and Moldova.
The integration of the solution into the existing infrastructure of the Kyiv metro was carried out by specialists of the ASTEK consortium.
