The Ministry of Education approved the new edition of the Basic Component of Preschool Education. The implementation of this document will allow to continue the reform of preschool education, and will also ensure continuity between preschool and school.
The corresponding decision was made during a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Education.
According to the Minister of Education Serhiy Shkarlet, the new Standard is aimed at the request of Ukrainian society regarding quality preschool. The purpose of updating the document is not only to bring Ukrainian preschool to international quality standards, but also to ensure continuity between preschool and primary education.
"Quality and affordable preschool education is a priority for the Ministry of Education and Culture, and the updated Basic Component is a significant step on the way to this," emphasized Serhii Shkarlet.
According to the document, the Basic component of preschool education is the State Standard, which defines the requirements for mandatory competencies and educational results of a preschool child, as well as the conditions under which they can be achieved in accordance with international education quality standards.
The approved Standard is based on respect for the personality of the child, his needs and capabilities, individual experience.
Also, the value orientations of the document are the strengthening and preservation of the child's physical and mental health and his emotional development, recognition of the developmental potential of a safe and inclusive educational environment, etc.
It is expected that the updated Standard will increase the accessibility of preschool education in Ukraine. In particular, it is aimed at ensuring equal access to preschool education for all children of early and preschool age, including children with special educational needs, orphans and children deprived of parental care.
After finalization, the Basic component of preschool education will be approved by order of the Ministry of Education and Culture and published on the website.
