What is TEDx and what is it for?

On a well-known resource about innovative education Mind / Shift noted how teachers share their experiences of conducting TEDx in schools.

Since 2009, more than 10,000 TEDx events have been held. Recently, lecture parties have become popular in schools, but what is interesting, the speakers themselves have become schoolchildren. The format of these events is very simple, in some places the students talked about their hobbies, in others - reports on educational projects served as a presentation.

The popularity of this format has become so great that on the site Institute of Play a specially developed program of the training course was presented, as well as a report on the TEDx event at the end of the academic year.

The main advantage of the TEDx lecture format is the "reversal of roles" in an educational institution, where students are transformed from listeners into active producers of knowledge. The best way to understand new material is to try to explain it to others, to understand it as a group. In turn, the students themselves feel responsible for public speaking, which makes them more motivated to prepare.

Many education workers ask themselves the question: If "excellents" aim to get a high score, what is the motivation of non-"excellences"? This may come as a surprise, but according to those teachers who have conducted such TEDx lectures in schools, the most successful performances are not "excellent" ones, but those who do not always have the opportunity to show themselves, and this performance is perceived by them as a kind of challenge.

The spirit of competition and responsibility create interest in students.

Here is an example of a TEDx lecture that has become very popular on the Internet, as it already has more than seven million views:
