On July 8, 2014, the Ministry of Education and Science held a meeting on the implementation of multilingual education in Ukraine. The director of the Department of General Secondary and Preschool Education of the Ministry of Education, Yuriy Kononenko, director of the PATRIR Peacekeeping Institute Andra Tenasye, employees of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Independent Center for Political Studies took part in the discussion.
As Yuriy Kononenko noted, multilingual education is very important for the development of education in Ukraine, which is why it should be implemented in Ukrainian educational institutions. It should be noted that this model of multilingual education was already implemented in Crimea ("Crimean Dialogue" and "Crimean School" projects), but was suspended today due to socio-political circumstances.
According to the director of the PATRIR Peace Institute, multilingual education is an innovation in education that will help schoolchildren to receive academic education in several languages, which is a solid foundation for future graduates.
During the meeting, the parties agreed to develop cooperation between the Ministry and the PATRIR Peacekeeping Institute on the implementation of multilingual education in Ukraine and supported the idea of organizing a seminar for teachers in the near future.
