The First Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Inna Sovsun, announced changes in the calculation of scholarships from the new academic year. According to her, the principle of awarding scholarships will be changed from September 1 of this year for first-year students. 

"Today, we still have the principle of "we will give everyone a little bit" and there are children who actually have no money and who cannot survive on a scholarship in Kyiv. At the same time, there are children from middle-income or even wealthy families for whom this money is a trifle, and by and large they don't particularly need it," Inna Sovsun explained the need for scholarship reform.

Inna Sovsun promises to start public discussions on the reform proposed by the ministry and predicts that these steps "are unlikely to be popular, but it is necessary to introduce reforms for those students who enroll."
