The Ministry of Education and Culture and the National Academy of Sciences against corruption in higher education institutions

The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine will cooperate with the National Agency for Prevention of Corruption to deepen, expand and update knowledge on compliance with anti-corruption legislation in higher education institutions. The corresponding memorandum was signed by the head of the NAKC, Natalia Korchak, and the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Lilia Hrynevych, on March 26, 2018, in the premises of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

The document fixes the areas of cooperation of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the National Academy of Sciences on the development and implementation of anti-corruption programs in institutions of higher education. In particular, there was joint work on the creation and distribution of clarifications in universities on issues of corruption prevention, conducting relevant educational, educational and scientific activities.

"With this memorandum, we want, first of all, to certify our intentions for cooperation. Now we feel the need for a certain, even educational, campaign that would help all participants of the educational process at universities to understand the requirements that the anti-corruption legislation puts before them. And it's not so much a question of understanding the requirements of the law, but of protecting one's rights in general," said Liliya Hrynevych.

The head of the NAZK, agreeing, added that there are many issues that need to be studied more thoroughly in order to be understood.

"For example, the issue of conflict of interest often needs additional clarification. There are problems with the correct interpretation of the issue of private interest," noted Natalia Korchak.

She emphasized that another important task of the cooperation of the National Academy of Sciences and the Ministry of Education and Culture should be working with the young generation, training future specialists who would understand the issues of anti-corruption legislation and combating corruption.

"I would say that this is the most important and ambitious task. But here we need your help the most. Unfortunately, we ourselves will not be able to carry out the task of developing programs and modules to combat corruption. We are ready to give you our experience and opportunities, but in order to fill these programs with quality content, we need your specialists," the Minister said.
