The government's action plan for 2016, published by the Cabinet of Ministers, provides for the adoption of government decisions regarding the organization and modernization of the network of state higher education institutions, as well as the promotion of the modernization of the network of communal and private higher education institutions. Based on the content of the document, the consequence of the adopted decisions should be a reduction in the number of higher educational institutions and higher specialized educational institutions by 10 percent.
The document states that the planned reduction should contribute to bringing the network of higher education institutions in line with the needs of the economy and society, taking into account the demographic situation, but the desired results are not specified in more detail.
Also, in 2016, the Ministry of Education will work on the development of higher education standards.
Another direction of activity of the Ministry of Education and Culture in the field of higher education will be the development of academic integrity practices, in particular, proper citation, combating plagiarism, and the creation of a national repository of academic texts. The purpose of this activity should be to conduct a mandatory check for plagiarism in the written works of students of higher education by higher educational institutions.
