Discounted travel for students in the Kharkiv metro will be returned by February 1 with a number of restrictions. Such is the decision of the working group, specially created by order of the mayor of Kharkiv to restore the canceled benefit.
"The benefit will be returned by the end of the month. Students will be able to ride the metro again at a fare of UAH 1.5 instead of the current UAH 3. However, the number of such trips will be limited, perhaps up to 60 per month, the number is to be determined. If it turns out that the card has been transferred to another person, its owner will lose the benefit for subway travel forever. It will be possible to use the travel card only if you have a student ticket", - said the head of the working group, adviser to the city mayor Yevhen Vodovozov.
According to him, the restrictions were introduced after analyzing the use of cards.
"It was established, in particular, that some students can make about 250 trips per month, and more than ten of them are on Sundays," Vodovozov added. The decision of the working group will be submitted for consideration at the Kharkiv City Council session scheduled for January 21.
From January 1, students of Kharkiv universities pay the full fare for subway travel: UAH 3. On January 15, the regional student council planned a "1.5-meter protest", but canceled the action, waiting for the decision of the city council session.
