Almost 30% foreign students from post-Soviet states come to study in Ukraine today, but in 2017 the leadership in the number of students in Ukrainian universities passed to India. This was said by the Minister of Education Liliya Hrynevych during a speech at the First Ukrainian Forum of International Education.
"This is a positive and significant signal for us - we manage to go beyond the post-Soviet comfort zone. Over the past two years alone, the number of Ukrainian higher education institutions where foreign students study has grown from 185 to 228. In 2017, almost 40,000 study invitations were issued. And this is twice as much as in 2015," Hrynevych said.
She also noted that Ukraine has also significantly strengthened its presence at various international educational conferences, exhibitions, etc.
"The brand "Study in Ukraine" is gradually becoming more and more recognizable in the international arena. Only in 2017, the opportunity to study in Ukraine for foreign applicants was presented in India, Morocco, Lebanon, Azerbaijan, Turkey, Poland, Turkmenistan," the minister emphasized.
Today, about 5 million people all over the world leave their native countries and go to study abroad. And this number is growing. Great Britain, Germany, France, and Australia study the largest number of foreign students. But the undisputed leader remains the USA - almost every fifth of the total number of foreign students in the world studies there.
"We have someone to look up to. Currently, more than 66,000 foreign students are studying in Ukraine. In 2011, there were 53,664 of them. That is, despite the complex process of reforming the state, the difficulties we face, interest in studying in Ukraine is increasing," Liliya Hrynevych noted.
