As part of the working visit to Ukraine of the Prime Minister of Poland Eva Kopacz, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhii Kvit met with the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland L. Kolarska-Bobinska and the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Poland I. Klyusik- Rostkovskaya
The parties exchanged views on reforming science, in particular, the system of scientific research in Ukraine, and paid attention to international projects of exchange of students and teachers. The parties discussed the process of implementing the "Polish Erasmus for Ukraine" scholarship program. In particular, L. Kolarskaya-Bobinska noted that 79 students from Ukraine are currently successfully studying at Polish universities within the framework of the program. In turn, the Ministry of Education and Science is considering applications from Ukrainian students for the second stage of the program. It is planned that 450 Ukrainian students and postgraduates will start their studies in Poland already in February 2015.
As reported by the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland, the Polish side in October will also allocate 60 scholarships to teachers of Ukrainian universities for the exchange of professional experience with Polish colleagues. L. Kolarskaya-Bobinska noted that support and promotion of reforms, provision of aid is the goal of cooperation on the part of the Polish side, and also assured of Ukraine's support in the European arena.
During the meeting of the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Serhiy Kvit, with the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Poland, I. Klyuzik-Rostkowska, the issues of general secondary education reform in Ukraine and the experience of the Polish side in this field were discussed.
S. Kvit noted that over time two draft laws "On education" and "On vocational and technical education" will be submitted for public discussion, therefore the experience of Polish reforms in these areas is important for the Ministry, especially considering the course of decentralization in the country.
As part of the meeting, an agreement on cooperation in the field of education was signed between the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Poland. In accordance with the agreement, there will be an exchange of teachers and educators of preschool, general education, extracurricular educational institutions from Ukraine and the Republic of Poland, and cooperation will continue within the framework of the joint Ukrainian-Polish commission of experts on improving the content of school textbooks on history and geography of both countries.
The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine thanked the Polish side for cooperation and expressed hope for support for reforms in education.
