9 Ukrainian scientists, 14 universities and scientific institutions, as well as 1 journal were awarded the "Web of Science Award 2018".
According to the Ministry of Education, the prize in Ukraine is being presented for the second time by the international publishing company "Clarivate Analytics", which owns the Web of Science platform.
Scientists were awarded for the largest number of scientific works published in 2008-2017. Among Ukrainian publications, the magazine with the most influential research received the award. Institutions were awarded for the largest number of highly cited articles, for the best publication strategies, for the largest number of scientific works published in collaboration, and for the number of publications in general.
According to Deputy Minister of Education and Science Maksym Strikha, publication of scientific results in world-recognized scientific bases is an important indicator of both the quality of scientific research and a factor that stimulates the development of science.
"Last year, we found funds to provide a centralized subscription to Web of science and Scopus for more than 100 Ukrainian universities and scientific institutions of the Ministry of Education and Culture. And we got impressive evidence of how much it is needed. If in the first month 22 and a half thousand requests were made through these connections, then after three months - more than 100 thousand. This shows that the Ukrainian community is truly integrating, that these information products are needed," said the Deputy Minister.
He also emphasized that the current goal of the Ministry of Education and Science is to obtain a national license so that all leading universities and scientific institutions of Ukraine have access to the databases and added that access to the databases is also important because "it is a powerful tool for scientists to understand what is happening in the world, in which directions should research be conducted, where to find partners for them."
