The government allocated an additional 2.2 billion hryvnias to pay teachers' salaries. Thus, for the first time, payment of funds to teachers will be made based on the actual number of students, and not according to last year's data. This decision was made today, February 12, 2020, at a Cabinet meeting.
"Now, for the first time in 4 years, when calculating the amount of funds for teachers' salaries, we took into account the data of this academic year, not last year. Since the class size indicator is included in the formula for calculating wages, these data significantly influence the budget formation. The money that we have now "thrown" into places will not affect the rate or mandatory payments. However, they will allow local authorities to pay the full premium for prestige and bonuses," said Minister of Education and Science Hanna Novosad.
Thanks to these funds:
- the budget of cities of regional importance will increase by 933.6 million
- the district budget will increase by 588.4 million
– the budgets of the united territorial communities will increase by 712.3 million
"I want to emphasize that this decision will have no effect on teachers, to whom the city government paid all allowances and bonuses before. Such cities include, for example, Kyiv. At the same time, we intend to change the approach to paying teachers' salaries by increasing the base rate. I am convinced that this will make the teaching profession more protected and will create safeguards for local authorities, which often manipulate allowances among budget employees," added the Minister.
