Ukraine took 38th place in the world ranking of secondary schools, initiated by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Places in the rating were distributed according to the results of the tests, which were conducted in 76 countries.
"For the first time, we got a truly global view of the quality of education," said Andreas Schleicher, OECD director for education.
Also, Andreas Schleicher added: "Our idea was to give as many countries as possible - both rich and poor - the opportunity to compare the state of their education with world leaders, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and see what the long-term economic benefits of improving the quality of education".
The first five places in the rating of secondary schools were taken by Asian countries, and the last places were taken by African countries. Singapore leads the table, Hong Kong is in second place, and Ghana closes the ranking. In the middle of the table were such countries as: Great Britain - 20, USA - 28 and Ukraine - 38.
It is interesting that it was Singapore that became the leader in the ranking, because even before the 1960s there was a fairly high level of illiteracy there. This factor shows how quickly, with a great desire and a quality management system, progress in the field of education can be achieved.
For example, in the quality of education, the USA is once again inferior to successful European countries. It is also possible to determine the decline of education in Sweden, in which researchers have found serious defects.
The researchers' findings will be presented at the World Education Forum in South Korea next week, where the United Nations plans to hold a conference on measures to improve global education by 2030.
