From now on, a cough and a temperature below 38 degrees are not a reason to leave the child at home. Acting Minister of Health Ulyana Suprun stated this.
"According to the recommendation of the American Academy of Pediatrics, a runny nose or cough that continues after an illness is not an obstacle to attending kindergarten or school," said Suprun.
But this innovation works only if three rules are followed:
- The child was examined by a doctor and allowed to go to an educational institution;
- The temperature is less than 38 degrees. It is important that the temperature should be normal by itself, and not as a result of lowering it with medication;
- The child behaves actively and adequately, feels good and will be able to cope without the help of teachers or educators.
An exception may be periods of influenza epidemics. At this time, a cough, runny nose, or sore throat is a good reason to leave the child at home, Suprun emphasized.
But, if the child has one or more respiratory symptoms: sore throat, cough or runny nose, accompanied by a temperature above 38, then you must consult a doctor.
- A child who has a cold can be contagious for up to two weeks, regardless of whether or not there is a runny nose or cough. In addition, a person who looks healthy for the time being and gets sick only the next day can also spread the disease. That is why it is so important that children in the team regularly wash their hands. This effectively prevents infections, - reminded the acting director. the minister
When it is not possible to send a child to school or kindergarten
According to Suprun, a child cannot be admitted to an educational institution in the following cases:
- When a child cannot participate in all classes due to illness. That is, she gets tired, wants to sleep, is in a bad mood, tearful and inactive. This can also be the case in the absence of respiratory symptoms;
– During the acute phase of an infectious disease, when the temperature is above 38 degrees and respiratory symptoms appear;
- When the child has a sickly appearance
