The Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education has started developing a new procedure for the competitive selection of textbooks, the main goal of which will be to solve the problems of the quality of school literature.
This was announced by the Minister of Education Serhii Shkarlet.
According to him, problems with the quality of school literature have been accumulating for the past few years.
"Currently, almost every week we have new scandals due to inappropriateness in textbooks such as "medicinal soda" or "mulled wine for warming up". This is only a small part of the shortcomings that just became public. In fact, there are, unfortunately, many more inaccuracies in the textbooks that were printed during 2015-2020," the minister notes.
He informed that such conclusions were reached by the experts of the Institute for the Modernization of the Content of Education.
"Even last year, they received my order and started comprehensive examinations of the quality of school literature. I already wrote that my predecessors should at least be ashamed of such work. But even if their conscience is tormenting them, it will definitely not return the hundreds of millions of hryvnias spent on printing textbooks of inadequate quality to the state," Shkarlet noted.
It is planned that from now on, full electronic versions of textbooks will be available at all stages of competitive selection.
In addition, according to the minister, the openness and transparency of each stage of the competition will be ensured, and textbooks will be awarded vultures before the start of the competitive selection based on the results of their review by expert commissions.
