Volodymyr Zelenskyi signed the law on the exemption of 11th-grade students from mandatory state final certification, which was adopted by the parliament on June 18.

The law aims to minimize the risk of contracting COVID-19 among students completing general secondary education and the further spread of the coronavirus disease.

The document adds to the Law "On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine, Aimed at Providing Additional Social and Economic Guarantees in Connection with the Spread of the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)", according to which, in connection with the implementation of quarantine measures, students , completing general secondary education in the 2019/2020 academic year, are exempted from passing the state final attestation (DPA).

In this way, school graduates who did not plan to enter higher education institutions this year can receive a certificate of completion of a complete general secondary education without taking an external examination.

At the same time, according to the law, students who complete their studies in secondary education institutions have the right to pass the DPA at their own request, in particular in the form of an external independent assessment, which is necessary for admission to higher education institutions of Ukraine.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the abolition of the mandatory state final certification will make it possible to reduce the number of test participants by approximately 27-30% and, accordingly, increase the social distance between them in the classrooms.

In addition, the document makes changes to the Law of Ukraine "On Education", according to which the duration of the academic year in educational institutions during the quarantine period can be determined by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.

The law enters into force on the day following its publication.
