Yesterday, August 11, 2014, a meeting of authorized persons was held regarding the implementation of a new scheme for selecting textbooks. Participants of the meeting were Deputy Minister of Education and Science Pavlo Polyanskyi and book publishers and experts.
The draft Regulation on the competitive selection of textbooks for students of 4th and 7th grades of general educational institutions was considered, as well as the content, functioning, accessibility and feedback for users of the depository (electronic portal), on which, after the conclusion of the competitive commission, will be placed textbook versions for the teacher to choose freely.
"All reviews, all protocols, all decisions, everything without exception should be publicly available," Pavlo Polyanskyi said.
This project will increase confidence in the work of the textbook selection committee, as well as reduce the number of questions and conflict situations. "Such openness will encourage those who volunteer to be reviewers, experts to take care of their expert reputation: what they write, what verdicts they pass," the Deputy Minister emphasized.
Pavlo Polyanskyi also appealed to the developers of the depository and publishers with a request to post adapted text versions of textbooks for blind and partially sighted children.
In mid-August of this year, the full package of changes and innovations proposed by the working groups should already be presented to the public.
