People's Deputy of Ukraine, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Environmental Policy, Mykola Tomenko, speaking during a meeting with heads of parliamentary committees, leaders of factions and government representatives regarding changes to the State Budget for 2015, recalled the situation with the transfer of agricultural universities from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to the Ministry of Education and Culture, when these higher authorities were not provided with appropriate funding when the ministerial subordination was changed.
According to the MP, the draft budget contains "several more irresponsible points".
"Since we are talking about making changes to the budget for 2015, this means that these proposals will be valid for a maximum of 10 months. How can the Government propose to reduce the number of higher education institutions from 802 to 317? That is, to "optimize" about 500 universities in 10 months? It is also not clear how, in what terms and exactly how many general educational institutions, vocational schools, etc. will be optimized, while planning to save UAH 312 million," noted M. Tomenko.
