Today, April 26, marks the 30th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster, which became the largest in the history of nuclear power in the world.
On April 26, 1986, at 01:23, the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl NPP exploded, causing a large-scale radioactive disaster, the consequences of which are felt even today.
At that time, about 50 employees of the station died and hundreds of rescuers were injured. The population of Pripyat, which in 1986 was 45,000 people, was completely evacuated during the first three days after the explosion.
Only thanks to the courage and self-sacrifice of workers, scientists, soldiers and volunteers who risked their lives and health, who carried out then, in 1986, unprecedented in their scale and complexity, the work of emergency elimination of the consequences of this tragedy, it was possible to avoid more terrible consequences.
All, without exception, the heroes of the liquidation of the consequences of the terrible Chernobyl disaster will forever remain in our hearts, and their exploits will never be forgotten.
