The future of business education: schools will have to "change or perish"

carringtoncrisp_inResearch company CarringtonCrisp has released a report on the future of business education, See the Future. The report reflects the results of a survey of employers and directors of business schools from 63 countries of the world.

The results of the survey identified four main problem areas: rising costs, the emergence of new technologies, personnel issues and market competition. Business schools must revise the content of their programs in favor of an interdisciplinary approach in accordance with the needs of students and companies.

Traditional models of the learning process in business schools are under destructive influence and institutions need to either adapt to the existing situation or disappear.

Here are some of the conclusions of the report:

About 80% respondents believe that "some business schools will disappear, and some will have to merge with others."

A little more, 90% are confident that "technology will lead to the emergence of new business models in education", and 70% - "technological innovations will attract new participants to the business education market".

About 90% consider it important that the programs are flexible and allow combining study and work.

75% expects business schools to develop new programs to help young and older workers with less than a college degree

50% of surveyed employers are aware of massive online courses (MOOCs).

At the same time, 70% predicts: "Within the next 5 years, most of the training and development programs in our company will be provided online."

It is important for employers that training is fast, inexpensive and effective, so they are increasingly relying on online programs.

Nevertheless, 80% believe that training for senior managers and directors will continue to be "face-to-face". For example, Stanford is starting an online program to train top managers.

In business schools, there is a growing need for interaction with other faculties, departments and experts, both inside and outside the institution, to provide a comprehensive education for students.
