The debate that continues in the educational community about the dates of the beginning and end of schooling does not in any case involve the return of the decade.
Acting President wrote about this in his Telegram. of the Minister of Education and Science, Serhii Shkarlet, commenting on the reports of some mass media regarding the abandonment of the 12-year school education model.
"Abandonment of 12-year school education is an absolute fake. The discussion, which has been going on for more than a year in the educational community regarding the dates of the start and end of schooling, does not in any case involve the return of the ten-year period," said the acting head. Minister of Education and Science.
He emphasized that the 12-year school system is a European trend.
"It is absolutely clear to me why the 12-year system is in place. This is a pan-European trend. For example, in Germany, in some federal states, a child will not be able to enroll in a master's program if he has not previously completed 15.5 years of education: 12 years of school and 3.5 years of bachelor's degree," emphasizes Skarlet.
In addition, the head of the Ministry of Education and Culture expressed his belief in the need for more active communication with society regarding this issue.
"And first of all, we must have a dialogue with parents, who, unlike educators, still have more questions than answers about the 12-year school. For example, when I was on a business trip in the regions and talking with parents of schoolchildren, I repeatedly heard indignation about the fact that children will finish school at 18-19 years old," Serhii Shkarlet notes.
At the same time, he emphasized the fact that there are other, no less compelling arguments in favor of a 12-year school.
"Therefore, this question was and remains open for professional discussion. We have to work out the necessary solutions so that 12-year school education works, becomes convenient and effective for children, teachers, and parents. In some EU countries, education begins at the age of 5 and ends at the age of 17. Such a proposal was also made at today's meeting of the Ministry of Education and Culture with the heads of regional administrations. It is worth thinking about, taking into account the standards of the New Ukrainian School, and discussing it at kindergartens, in advanced training institutes, with parents. The Ministry of Education and Culture is considering all proposals "for" and "against", - said the acting minister. Minister of Education and Science.
According to him, the discussion is open, and the Ministry of Education and Science will not make any decisions until optimal options are worked out.
