According to the Institute of Educational Analytics, the network of general educational institutions of Ukraine during the last two academic years decreased by 1.52 % - a total of 267 secondary schools (in particular, evening shift schools, special schools and boarding schools).
In the 2014/2015 academic year, 17,604 secondary schools worked, and in the 2015/2016 academic year - 17,337. If we do not take into account evening shift schools, special schools and boarding schools, the reduction in the number of general secondary educational institutions is 1.48 %.
Over the past two years, 38 schools were closed in the cities, and four new ones were opened. 231 rural schools were closed, and 11 were opened. The cities of Kyiv, Donetsk, and Kharkiv closed the most schools. In rural areas, the largest decrease was experienced by ZNZ in Zhytomyr, Chernihiv, and Volyn regions.
It should be noted that over the last two academic years, the number of first-graders increased by 22,882 students. The largest increase in 1st grade students in city day schools was observed in Kyiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions. There is a decrease in the enrollment of students in the first grades in Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. In Lviv, Rivne, and Kyiv regions, the number of first-graders in 2015/2016 increased the most. In ninth grades, the number of students decreased by 9,775. In Kyiv, Lviv, and Odesa regions, the number of tenth graders in city day schools increased. The most significant decrease in tenth graders in cities is observed in Donetsk and Ternopil regions.
According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in 2014-2015 (excluding the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol) 333,761 graduates graduated from secondary school and received a certificate of basic general secondary education; 217,704 graduates graduated from third-level school and received a certificate of complete general secondary education.
At the beginning of 2015/2016 there were 446,304 teachers in general educational institutions (453,557 teachers in 2014/2015).
According to the data of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, in 2014, the costs per student of secondary school for the academic year in the regions of Ukraine ranged from 8.5 and 8.6 thousand hryvnias in the Kharkiv and Odesa regions to 15.5 thousand hryvnias in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. which became the most expensive. In 2015, the salaries of education workers were increased twice - in September and in December.
