Visa will help develop the financial literacy of pupils, students and educators, - MES

The Visa company has joined the partners of the Ministry of Education and Culture, which help to increase financial literacy and develop entrepreneurship in Ukrainian educational institutions. The corresponding memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Education and Culture and Visa.

In particular, the parties plan to jointly prepare, improve and implement educational programs for students and teachers in schools, for teaching staff and students in pedagogical universities. It is also planned to hold events for students and teachers, prepare materials for educational institutions, etc.

"It is important that our cooperation involves the development of competencies not only among students, but also among teachers - in particular, those who work within the New Ukrainian School. This will help in the future to form end-to-end competencies of students regarding entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The resource provided by our cooperation with Visa is fully aimed at obtaining a positive social effect," said Deputy Minister of Education and Science Vadym Karandii.

The first joint process will be Visa's participation in the development of an online component of a course for teachers on the competency-based approach to education. The course is developed for school leaders and teachers of the New Ukrainian School - both primary school teachers and subject teachers.

The course, developed with the financial and organizational support of the European Education Fund, is based on three European competence frameworks:

– European entrepreneurship competence framework (EntreComp),

– the European framework of digital competence of citizens 2.1 (DigComp 2.1),

– Council of Europe Competence Framework for Democratic Culture (RF CDC).

"We highly appreciate the opportunity to support the efforts of the Ministry of Education and Culture, aimed at further promoting the development of entrepreneurship and financial literacy in Ukraine. This Memorandum of Understanding reflects our shared vision of actions that should be taken to ensure the growth of financial literacy and financial inclusion of Ukrainian citizens," said Vira Platonova, senior vice president and director of regional development of the Visa division in the CIS and Southeast Europe.

For reference: According to the results of studies conducted by Visa, Ukrainians rate their own financial literacy at the level of 3.13 points on a 5-point scale. At the same time, 86% respondents have a desire to receive additional information to improve their financial literacy, especially regarding the choice of profitable and reliable savings methods, tax calculation scheme and social benefits.

According to the latest World Bank data, 37% Ukrainians are outside the financial system, that is, they do not have any bank account. The share of people who actively use Internet and mobile banking in Ukraine is 7-8 times lower than in Poland and the USA.
