Funds for the payment of Ukraine's associated participation in the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) have already been included in the 2018 budget. This was discussed at the opening of the exhibition on the occasion of the anniversary of the associate membership of Ukraine in CERN today, November 20, 2017, in the premises of the Ministry of Education and Science.
"In 2016, we paid 270 thousand, in 2017 - 1 million Swiss francs. Access to the opportunity to conduct research on CERN's unique equipment actually fully repays this contribution. This is due to tenders and the participation of our enterprises, industries and scientific institutes in tenders for the Organization, as well as the opportunity for our scientists to work on modern equipment," said the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Liliya Hrynevych.
The total amount of tenders is already 550 thousand Swiss francs. The implementation period is 2017-2018. Currently, the European Organization for Nuclear Research is interested in increasing the involvement of Ukrainian organizations in the execution of tenders, in particular, regarding the supply of metal products. Information about tenders can be found on the CERN website.
"In general, tenders for materials for CERN were won by 2 organizations. The Institute of Scintillation Materials of the National Academy of Sciences will supply the Organization with plastic scintillators for strategic research. "LED Technologies" LLC has been producing microcables specially for CERN for several years, which are not produced anywhere else in the world," explained the representative of Ukraine at CERN, Borys Hrynyov.
The event also discussed cooperation between CERN and the Small Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
7 years ago, MAN signed a declaration on cooperation with the European Organization for Nuclear Research. According to her, Ukrainian physics teachers and students of the National Academy of Sciences received a unique opportunity to participate in CERN educational programs. From 2011 to 2017, there were 4 scientific schools for teachers and lecturers, as well as 5 scientific schools for students of the National Academy of Sciences.
Within the framework of the project of the National Academy of Sciences "Mobile Studio of Popular Science" there is a visiting popular science lecture in the field of "High Energy Physics". In recent years, about 12,500 students from all regions of Ukraine have become its participants.
The minister noted that every year about 30 teachers, 30 pupils and students from Ukraine participate in CERN's educational programs.
