The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Serhiy Kvit, said that in 2015, the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education will start operating in Ukraine.
"This is a new independent body in which there will be no representatives of the ministry, that is, the state. All members will be elected according to the quota principle - from state, communal and private universities, from students, national and branch academies of sciences, employers," said the minister.
Kvit recalled that after the law "On Higher Education" came into force, the number of higher education institutions in Ukraine had already decreased from 802 to 317. "It (the law) separated university education from what is provided in colleges and technical schools, which were previously interpreted as higher educational institutions. - II levels of accreditation The number of higher education institutions will continue to decrease, but the quality criteria that universities must meet will already be put forward by the National Agency for Quality Assurance of Higher Education," he said.
According to the minister, by the end of this academic year, several dozen higher educational institutions will lose their licenses. "Many (educational institutions) have nothing but a name. There will be no problems with the transfer of students, as the licensed volume in other Ukrainian higher education institutions is quite sufficient to transfer all students painlessly. And the teachers, mainly, are not registered there on a full-time basis. I predict that by summer we will have 260-270 higher education institutions left," Kvit added.
