Currently, an admissions campaign is underway in Ukraine not only to universities, but also to professional education institutions. In general, it takes place until September 1, however, VET institutions independently determine the specific dates for accepting entrants. Iryna Shumik, director general of the Directorate of Vocational Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture, said this today, July 13, 2018, at the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
"The admissions campaign to institutions of professional education does not have clearly defined terms - they independently announce the competition, determine the dates of the entrance exams, form lists of those recommended for enrollment. Taking into account the composition of the groups, institutions continue or complete the recruitment of students, but the acceptance of documents must end before the start of classes - by September 1, 2018," Iryna Shumik said.
The institution can measure the knowledge of applicants for admission using various criteria. Among them are an interview, a rating based on the average score of a certificate or certificate of education, entrance tests, etc. Traditionally, the Conditions of Admission define the list of those who have the right to priority admission or out of competition, having provided confirmation of the right to preferential admission. "I want to emphasize that professional education in Ukraine is accessible and has a number of advantages. This year, we offer about 100,000 places for training on a budget. Last year, 101,000 students began to acquire vocational education at the expense of regional and state orders. Scholarships and hostels are provided. Also, during training, students can count on payment for industrial practice that takes place at enterprises," Iryna Shumik noted.
She added that it is already possible to determine the most popular professions among entrants - they are hairdresser, cook, confectioner, driver or motor vehicle mechanic, plasterer, tiler. And in institutions that constantly work on the quality of students' education, improve the material and technical base and are open to cooperation with employers, there is already a certain competition among applicants.
