During the visit of the Ukrainian government delegation to Brussels on December 19, 2016, an agreement was signed between Ukraine and the European Investment Bank (EIB) on raising a loan for the implementation of the project "Higher education. Energy efficiency and sustainable development".
The project was initiated and developed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine together with the EIB to help Ukrainian universities to use energy resources more efficiently. The total cost of the project is 160 million euros. Of them, 120 million is provided by the EIB, and additional financing is also expected at the expense of the grant of the Eastern European Partnership in the field of energy efficiency and ecology.
The implementation of the project will take place at the expense of various activities and works aimed at energy saving and optimization of management processes of energy consumption. According to its results, the participating universities should achieve the highest educational and research standards, improve their own material base and significantly reduce the level of energy consumption.
It is worth noting that the project "Higher education. Energy efficiency and sustainable development" was divided into 2 stages:
1. Energy efficiency measures in 147 buildings of 7 universities.
2. Energy efficiency measures, as well as the purchase of scientific laboratory equipment for universities, which will be selected according to EIB criteria.
The list of participants of the first stage has already been determined, which includes:
