On Friday, September 11, 2015, the Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine Serhiy Kvit took part in the 22nd Forum of Publishers in Lviv.
During the round table held on the topic "Does the state need a smart nation? Conformity of the policy of the government to the state of book publishing and reading in the country?" within the framework of the forum, the Minister of Education and Science spoke about the provision of textbooks to students of secondary schools at the beginning of the school year.
As Serhii Kvit reported, textbooks for grades 4-7, which Ukrainian students are waiting for, will arrive at schools with a delay, but they will be free.
"Already next week, a panel will be held that will approve the results of the competition among publishers for the release of textbooks for grades 4-7. Therefore, tenders will be held and textbooks will be issued," the minister said.
According to Serhii Kvit, the textbooks created according to the new and improved programs will be free for students. Half of their cost will be paid by the state, half by local budgets. The minister explained the delay in their release as a delay in funds. But now they are allocated, so, albeit with a certain delay, schoolchildren will be able to put the books in their portfolios.
The 22nd Forum of Publishers takes place in Lviv from September 9 to 13. About 5,000 new book editions are presented at it. More than 900 participants from 22 countries take part in the forum. It is expected that a total of 40-50 thousand people will visit the book halls and almost 1,500 events of the forum.
